High quality rubies are rare and the most valuable of all the coloured stones. The colour of fine ruby is often described as being blood red. Our most intense emotions can represented by colour of fine ruby; love, anger, and passion are associated with a rich red colour. From roses to fast cars, red is often represented with power and objects of desire. Early cultures believed ruby held the power of eternal life because the colour resembled the blood that flowed through the veins. Top quality ruby are very expensive, they can by many multiples the cost of a perfect diamond of the same weight. Exceptional specimens attributed to Burma that haven’t been heat treated or otherwise enhanced can have wholesale prices of over $100,000.00 in the 1.50 to 2.00 carat size range. Our estate ruby while not an extra fine example by strict definition, is still of very good quality and much nicer than what we typically encounter. This blood red estate ruby is ever so slightly cushion shaped, measuring approximately 7.2mm diameter and estimated to weight 1.75 carats. It is flanked on each shoulder by a trillion shaped brilliant cut natural diamond accent estimated to weigh 0.20 carats each of SI1-I quality. The ruby and diamonds are set in a custom made 18 karat white and yellow gold setting with a filigree pattern gallery. The ring is in perfect condition and looks unworn. Measuring a finger size 6, the ring can be adjusted up or down a size or two. This is a special ring and has been handcrafted reflecting the quality of the centre stone using over 4 grams of premium 18 karat gold. This one of a kind ruby/diamond estate priced at $8,400.00 CAD. When the platinum and stainless steel Yacht-Master debuted they were only available by getting on a waiting list or paying far more than retail for a used one. Things have changed somewhat since the Covid chaos of a few years ago. Just like housing prices, things have calmed down somewhat and you can pick up great examples of some sporty Rolex models for less than retail now. The current 6 digit reference Yacht-Masters with platinum bezels have a retail price of $15,350.00 in a rhodium dial. If you want the original platinum dial version, the secondary market is the only place you’ll find one as this dial with the red second hand has been retired. The dial on this Yacht-Master is not pretty silver paint, this dial is actually made from platinum with a subtle sandblasted finish that would be impossible to duplicate on a simple a painted surface. Current model Yacht-Masters are seldom seen on the shelves of Rolex agents and excellent conditional retired examples like this are also rarely seen on the secondary market, at least around here. The Yacht-Master is only Rolex watches that offer a handy 2-way timer bezel timer indexed for 60 minutes. The simple device easily allows the user to keep track of any event of up to one-hour duration with about 30 seconds accuracy. Parking meters, lunch hours, and maybe the perfectly timed steak are just a few things this bezel could be used for. The 40mm watch is equipped with the famous Rolex Triplock crown, oyster case water resistant to 300 feet and bright luminous hands/markers for east reading in the dark. The case and bracelet look like new showing virtually no scratches, the fiendishly difficult to refinish/polish platinum bezel looks practically brand new too. The polished/brushed finished oyster bracelet perfect, showing no sag or stretch. Hidden under the locking buckle is a micro adjustment “EasyLink” that can be deployed allowing an extra 5mm of room for those days when a bit more room is needed. Professional models are what every Rolex customer is looking for; a discontinued model in excellent condition is something every Rolex aficionado/collector is looking for. The Yacht-Master comes with its Rolex box (no original documents) and a complimentary 1 year Bill Le Boeuf Jewellers warranty is included for the estate price of $13,500.00 CAD. Stock #505-00527.

People sometimes ask us, “what’s the point of black diamonds” and we get it. They offer no transparency and zero dispersion because they are totally opaque. What they do offer is exception hardness allowing cutters to facet edges sharper than any other gem, plus superior reflectivity characteristics that makes them look like highly polished black metal, but metal that is virtually impossible to scratch and always keeps a perfect edge. Our newest estate offering contains 112 round brilliant cut black diamonds. Even though they are totally non transparent they have still been fully faceted with 57 individual cuts on each stone. The labor for cutting 6384 unique facets just for the black diamonds used in this piece is substantial. There are 30 additional white diamonds providing sparkling contrast, brilliance and dispersion. The white and black contrast and rectangular shape of this ribbon pendant gives it an Art Deco design inspiration. This large pendant measures 35.mm X 21.5mm and weighs a significant 7.7 grams. The oversized loops on the back allow use with pretty much any necklace, cord, or ribbon. A black and white rhodium plating has been applied to the surface of the white gold further enhancing the bold striped effect. The pendant shows no wear and remains in like new condition. Estate priced at $2,160.00 CAD Stock #161-00351.
If you wanted to collect every colour in the rainbow using only one variety of gem, sapphires are your best bet. Sapphires occur naturally in the full spectrum of colours. Blue is the hue most people associate with this durable gem, but it can be found in vibrant shades of orange, yellow, green, violet, pink and everything in between. When they form red they are called Ruby, but it wouldn’t be incorrect to describe a ruby as a red sapphire. Sometimes they can be found displaying a pinkish/orange colour, in this form they are called Padparadscha. Sapphires owe their different colours to various trace amounts of common to rare elements that alter their colour. The most pure form of sapphire that is completely absent of contaminating elements is colourless like a perfect white diamond. The pink hue of our latest estate ring is caused by a tiny amount of chromium held within the crystal. The more chromium the darker the pink until it becomes red and is now referred to a a ruby. This cushion shaped example has been cautiously estimated to weigh 1.00 carat. The November 2004 appraisal estimated the weight at 1.25 carats. The sapphire has be set in a custom made 14 karat white gold setting containing 42 bead set natural diamonds of SI-H quality (0.50 carats total weight). The ring measures just over a size 6 and can be adjusted up or down from there. Crafted from 14 karat white gold the finished ring weighs 3.7 grams. The ring is in excellent condition showing only light scuffs and scratches on the polished sections of the shank. It comes with a 20 year old appraisal by Jewellery Appraisal Services Inc. Toronto. This one of a kind custom made ring is estate priced at $1,500.00 CAD. Stock #206-00589.
When it comes down to it, Rolex really only makes 1 style of watch. The Oyster case in all of its various sizes and metal varieties is pretty much the same design it’s always been for close to 100 years. Some Oyster cases are fitted with different bezels and bracelets but the watch still looks like “a Rolex”. Some cases are fitted with movements that do more than just tell the time. You can have a 31-day calendar, a stopwatch, a dual time display, or even a countdown timer, but it’s still the same watertight Oyster case with a threaded crown and case back, but I guess that’s the point. Brand identity is everything and no one does a better job protecting their brand than Rolex. For such a static design there are few more desirable watches than a Rolex. Of the 1000s of dial, bracelet, and metal configurations, the 18 karat white gold fluted bezel with stainless steel is always one of the most popular. Dress it up or dress it down, something like our latest never worn estate Rolex is up to the task. The Aubergine/Roman dial is a bit of a bonus as most are shown with black, silver, or white dials. Any ladies Rolex is the exception with us. I’d estimate at least 90% of the estate Rolex that pass through our estate department are men’s models. Some women like the look of the larger gents sizes but a 31mm case is the Goldilocks size for many women, and they don’t come by very often. This example is brand new and never worn. It comes complete with the original inner/outer box, protective cardboard box sleeve, foam liner, instruction booklet, all documents, and an endorsed warranty card that will cover the next owner until the summer of 2028. Of the two bracelet choices available for this model the Jubilee is more feminine and distinctive looking. The Jubilee bracelet costs $250.00 more than the sportier Oyster style, but adds an extra level of sophistication that pairs well with the solid 18 karat white gold fluted bezel. The smaller links of the Jubilee bracelet make for a very comfortable wearing experience. The purple aubergine dial with Roman numeral hour markers is a first for us as is the diamond set 18-karat white gold 6 o’clock hour marker. The 11 precisely set round single cut diamonds are of the finest quality available and give the watch an additional level of luxury and a distinctive look. This regal looking dial is one of the least common and most sought after. The inventory situation for new Rolex is still rather sparse, to say the least. This never worn 2023 Rolex is estate priced over its original suggested retail price, but nicely under the average secondary market asking price. We can adjust the bracelet while you wait and demonstrate the various features this watch offers. This Rolex is estate priced at $15,555.00 CAD. 505-00450.
